Plymouth LGBT Archive – London – Exeter and Back to London for Performance Legacies Symposium

heritage-lottery-fund-logo-135pxThis is a particularly busy week for our Archive Co-ordinator Plymouth University Phd Student Alan Butler who on Wednesday 20th March, was invited to attended a round table discussion, at the Heritage Lottery Headquarters in London, concerning the future of funding for oral history projects around the United Kingdom.  The HLF were very  interested in the success of project – particularly in terms of training and support from the Plymouth City Museum and Art Gallery, the Plymouth and West Devon Record Office, participation from different groups and also in the continuing legacy of the project.  The consultation is still ongoing with the Plymouth LGBT Archive being closely linked to that process and outcomes. The national interest in our project is down to the support and contribution from the local members of the Plymouth LGBT communities and our straight friends.

On Saturday 23rd March the mobile archive was on show for the first time outside of Plymouth with a stand at Exeter Pride. The display generated lot’s of interest – volunteer and friend of the Archive Jo helped answer many questions and promoted the ongoing work of archive through the day. Alan took part in a radio interview and the day was a great success. We would like to thank the organisers of Exeter Pride for inviting us and we look forward to building upon and strengthening our links with the Exeter LGBT communities and groups across Devon and the South West.
