Over the last twelve months, our fellow Heritage Lottery Funded community group the ‘Friends of Devonport Park’ have received various HLF grants to restore the park and make other improvements. One of their more ambitious projects is the new ornate bandstand which replaces the Victorian original.
In connection with this, the friends have been keen to arrange as many events as possible around the facility over the next twelve months, and Pride in our Past was able to put them in touch with a number of LGBT community groups and other interested parties.
Pride in Plymouth is now planning the fantastic Pride in the Park event, in conjunction with the Friends of the Park, and Pride in Our Past volunteers have been offered use of one of the marquees to spend the day engaging with the community and adding to Plymouth’s LGBT archive which, by then, will be held as one of the permanent collections at the Plymouth and West Devon Record Office.
Pride in the Park will provide us with an amazing opportunity to continue to collect valuable histories and promote the Plymouth LGBT history archive after the exhibition has closed on the 30th June.
Let’s continue to make history on the 28th July
