Drop ins and Exhibition Update

On Saturday 21st January 2012 we are holding the first of a series of informal drop ins where you can meet members of the Pride in Our Past team to find out more about the project and the up and coming exhibition that will open in April.

We have chosen to hold our first drop in at the recently refurbished Plymouth Arts Centre between 11:30 am and 12:30 pm.

Plymouth Arts Centre is close to the city centre and Barbican waterfront. As a nationally-renowned contemporary visual arts venue and Plymouth’s only independent cinema, it occupies a key place in the cultural life of the city. arthouse, our new cafe, bar and restaurant, offers the ideal meeting place; serving a great selection of morning coffee, light lunches, drinks, snacks and suppers.

This is an opportunity to share your memorabilia with us, old photographs, love letters and correspondence from the past.

Maybe you have a story to share or memories of a night out at Mr. Harry’s, Club 91 or Boltz at the Academy. Even go back a little further Lockyer Tavern, Gypsy Moth or the Mambo Cafe.

Exhibition Update

The Pride in our Past exhibition working party will meet on the 23rd Jan to finalise the plans for the exhibition. Over the past six months we have collected a wealth of material and recorded histories that will feature in the exhibition. After this meeting we will have firm plans to work towards with our partners and experts at the Plymouth City Museum and Art Gallery.

Work continues in the background to catalogue the material collected, and prepare it for inclusion in the Plymouth LGBT history on-line archive. We are also in communication with various potential guest speakers working towards confirming dates and venues for supporting events around the exhibition.

We will of course keep you up to date with confirmed events through this news blog, our website and facebook.

Don’t forget the closing date for our photography competition has been extended to the 14th January 2012
